Florida was definitely at IC........Pinky represented us quite well.....Jan Billias and her side kicks....Mona and Lin from Lambda Xi did a great job on the Association of the Arts.  Betty attended the Foundation 'stuff'.  Kayla made us proud during the membership workshop.  During B. J.'s presentation she mentioned and had pictures on the screens of Florida at least 5 times....talked about the 1st Dog Walk she attended in the Bay area and what a great job Rhonda, Rockie and Robin's family did putting it on in horrific weather.....she ask Pinky to speak briefly....They knew the Sunshine State was there.

Award wise....two of our chapters placed in the top ten educationals  Alpha Rho in Tampa and Gamma Rho in Fort Myers.  Florida was 2nd in Easter Seal State Hours. Jan Lee, Delta Alpha, Kissimmee was recognized as having received her 6th degree Pallas Athene.  In the A of A Sue Ceriale, Epsilon Lambda, Cocoa Beach, placed second in Division VII Needlework.  Betty, Gamma Rho, Fort Myers, was the 2nd highest fund raiser in the Mall Madness project for St. Jude with $3,210.

There were some really good speakers and workshops.  The welcome party dinner was a riot......it is amazing how much fun adults can have with water guns.................ask Barbara Floyd.

HELP US DONATE 3.5 MILLION MEALS

It only costs you the price of a Snickers® bar!  How easy and rewarding is that???

One of our goals this year is to build membership, so the board is asking every member to:

Recommend a friend - send the name and contact information of three friends to IC;
Pledge at least one member

If every member did one of these, we could greatly increase our membership.  Discuss this in your chapter meetings and make it a priority if you want ESA to survive.  Contact your Executive Board if you need/want help in how to increase your membership.  You can recommend a friend in another state; it doesn't have to be in Florida.  Members in all states help keep ESA alive.

ESA Foundation is the organization that awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors, graduate studants, people returning to school after being in the work place, as well as others, but it is also the non-profit side of ESA.  There are certain advantages for you, as an individual, to belong to Foundation.  Please contact your chapter president or a member of the Executive Board for more information.

From now until March 2011, you can join Foundation for $25.00 for 2 years membership for a savings of $15.00 on your next year's membership.  Please consider this worthwhile cause.

CARE CONNECTION

Hope for Heroes is a national program sponsored by ESA to support our military
personnel.  The primary purpose is to let the veterans know we are thankful
for what they are doing.  November 7 - 14, the week surrounding Veterans' Day,
is the time to involve your community and honor military men and women.  Here are some things you can do, not just November 7 - 14, but all year long:

  • Coupons for Vets
  • Make 9" x 12" pillows to send
  • Send Christmas Cards
  • Donate proceeds from sports events
  • Take books to VA hospital or a VA nursing home
  • Invite a veteran or military family to dinner
  • Wave flags outside a military base entrance
  • Contact VFW to see how you can help
  • Donate books
  • Buy a grocery store gift certificate
  • Provide magazines or books
  • Find a soldier you can support
  • Send care packages
  • Take a vet to lunch
  • Make donations
  • Have a yard sale and donate proceeds
  • Advertise your yard sale as supporting Camp Hope
  • Support Vets Helping Returning Heroes that trains service dogs for our broken heroes
  • Get local restaurants to give a portion of profits to vets
  • Go to "Welcome Home" celebrations when troops come home
  • Support the family left behind with house/yard work, take the kids out, take a casserole, etc.

The Power of Recognition

Click on the link below to see a short film on how you can give recognition and support to our troops.  It's easier than you think, costs nothing, and is much appreciated by our servicemen and women.  Be sure your sound is on.
